EHS Today, the magazine for environment, health and safety leaders, has announced its list of the 2022 America’s Safest Companies. The nine companies on the list represent a broad array of industries: construction, industrial hygiene, manufacturing, recycling and more.
For more than 20 years, the America’s Safest Companies competition has sought to identify those characteristics that differentiate good safety programs from great ones, and to then celebrate the best practices and procedures that exemplify safety excellence.
The companies that have achieved that excellence in 2022 were honored at an awards ceremony that was part of the Safety Leadership Conference in Cleveland, OH, October 18-20. The theme of the 2022 Safety Leadership Conference, was “Building the Future of Worker Safety.” The special awards ceremony was held Wednesday, Oct. 19, and celebrated the achievements of the nine companies named to this year’s list of America’s Safest Companies.
The America’s Safest Companies Class of 2022 are Ballard Marine Construction, GFL Environmental Services USA, Hunter Site Services, Lauger Companies, Lindblad Construction, MetroPower, Russell Marine, Sani-Matic, and Tri-City Electric Co.
Winners of the award over the years have ranged from small companies with less than 100 employees to global giants with more than 50,000 employees; some have one safety representative while others have large EHS staffs. What they all have in common is a focus on people, public trust, and profit.

To be considered as one of America’s Safest Companies, organizations must complete an application that requires them to demonstrate excellence in several areas: support from leadership and management for EHS efforts; employee involvement in the EHS process; innovative solutions to safety challenges; injury and illness rates lower than the average for their industries; comprehensive training programs; evidence that prevention of incidents is the cornerstone of the safety process; good communication about the value of safety; and a way to substantiate the benefits of the safety process.
The best practices from all of the 2022 America’s Safest Companies are featured in a special section in the September/October 2022 issue of EHS Today magazine and on the brand’s website, www.ehstoday.com.
